I managed to visit this cemetery about 2 years ago and i was surprised to find a mention of it whilst i was reading the news. Anyway, here's a link to the story for those that are interested.

BBC News - Afghanistan's 'graveyard of foreigners'

"Few countries in the world have been invaded as often, and by so many other nations, as Afghanistan, where many soldiers and civilians of various nationalities are buried in Kabul's Kabre Gora, or "graveyard of foreigners".

The most famous of the "classic blunders" mentioned by Vizzini in the Princess Bride - "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - was reputedly advice also given by General Douglas MacArthur to President John F. Kennedy, in 1961.

The country is one of the few successful resisters to any type of imperialism. Impossible supply lines, a diffuse and very localized structure of leadership making the toppling of any government as difficult as killing all the "leader" ants in an anthill. Reading about the early European explorers in the area shows just how impossible removing the entrenched systems are.

And a few years before that, President Washington counseled, "No foreign entanglements." Although, of course, he didn't specify Asia.
