1.Finland was not the member of orginal allies (Germany,Italy,Japan,Bulgary,Romania,Hungary) but had agreement with these, starting from june 1941.
This agreement was done after asking first help several times from Sweden,UK,US and France with out any results and when it was clear that Soviet Union will continue/start war against Finland (After winter war).
After all, war was quite mess....UK and US pushed help to the Soviet Union(Plains, tanks, trucks, food etc.) because SU was fighting against Germany but part of this help was pointed against Finland and same time Finland get "Private" help from US,UK and Sweden.

Stalin also wanted that UK/US need to start military actions against Finland, so government of Finland got message from UK that very sorry but soon there is war between Finland and UK.
Then one plane came, drop bombs to the sea at the front of Petsamo (Small city at the northern Finland) and fly away...After that there was no military actions between UK and Finland but Stalin was happy
Letter from Churchill to the Marshall of Finnland is here:
Englannin ja Suomen vlinen sota
Message from Roosewelt to Stalin was that US dont start war or any military actions between Finland and US.

2.Result of continuation war was that Finland stayed as an intepended country.
Estonia,Latvia and Liethuenia were not able to that and with out weapon help from Germany, Finland would be doomed.

3. Almost due the the whole war time, Finland informed to Soviet Union (Via Sweden) that country is ready to check possibilties to the peace if terms just are reasonables but Soviet Union was not showing any intrest to do peace with out totally surrender of Finland but this was not ok for Finland because it was clear that Stalin had intrest to swallow Finland and destroy whole nation.
Later Stalin had pressures to move forces from north to the germany and then Soviet Union send messages that peace is possible with some terms and one was that all groups of Germany need to push out from Finland.
Latest agreement with Germany (To get weapon help) was done by President of Finland, Mr.Risto Ryti but not had permission of government (This was done by purpose, only with signature of president).
When government accept the terms of peace with Soviet Union, same time was informed to the Germany that Mr.Ryti have "left the building" and this personal agreement with Germany and Mr.Ryti is now history....And then to the groups of Germany(In Finland) was informed that they have 10 days time to leave Finland, after that Finland starts war against them.
10 days was not enouhgt long time to move around 200000 soldiers to Norway and then Lapland war started.
Finland had only 30000 men on that war but germans were pushed to the Norway and so one term of peace was filled.

When planing latest agreement with germany, President Ryti had vision that Germany will loose the war but at the other hand, it was only country what is willing to help Finland against the russians.
Also he knew fact that sooner or later war is over and Soviet-Union is still behind the border.
So he informed on silence the membes of governmet that he can do agreement with German to get weapons because he was sure that Hitler can not do differcence between dictatorship and democracy goverment/president.
Also plan was that if/when Soviet Union is ready for peace, he will leave his position and then this agreement with Germany dont tie up the hands of government because it is not legal.
Mr.Ryti knew that this agreement was not good for him but he was just thinking the benefits of Finland and how get the peace with reasonable terms and keep Finland as an intepended state and thats why history books now knows his person as an national hero, with great respect.

Because you were strong you managed to stay independent even after the end of war. Well played, Suomi, well played.
