Let's think of:

- Imhotep

- Aristotle

- Augustine of Hippo

- Emperor Gaozu (founder of the Tang dynasty)

- Benjamin Franklin

- Napoleon

- John F. Kennedy

How would they have viewed City-Data forums?

Well, except for JFK, they would all be shocked stupid by the advanced technology involved.

Franklin would probably make up some witticism about how society had evolved to produce too much leisure time.

But...c'mon. I think this forum should have a rule which requires anyone launching a thread seeking counter factual speculation, be required to fill in the reality details first. I mean, how do we answer what Imhotep would think of an internet chat when we don't know that he wouldn't be outside saying something like "AAAAGGHH! Iron bird in sky! Run! AAAGHH!"

How does this work, what are the rules here? Is this all these people commenting on City Data in their own eras, as in the forum magically appearing in past ages, or is it supposed to be these people brought forward in time and seeing it? In that case aren't they reeling from general culture shock over everything?

Franklin would write "Early to bed and early to rise... means you won't be chatting with the truly strange dudes."

I think most historic figures would be in awe of how quickly information can now be spread. And at the same time saddened (yet impressed) by how quickly misinformation and hatred are also spread. The general stupidity of much of the writing would probably appall many of the more literate people.

I doubt they would have wasted as much time on this site as we do...

Except Napoleon anyway... he'd be trolling the place like mad.

I'm not sure that Barack Obama or Warren Buffet or Stephen King are aware of City-Data Forums. (If they are, I don't think they post here.) What wold they think of it, and why would they have a different opinion of it than Aristotle or Franklin?

Al Gore would have invented CDF.
