How would you compare how Presidents John Tyler and James Polk when dealing with how to annex Texas? I believe Polk took a much more forceful approach.
Polk also had support from his party and congress. Tyler was pretty much a man without any allies, especially at a time when Congress had so much control. Tyler would have loved to have done what Polk was able to do.
