Corregidor, one of the islands in the Pacific, was during WWII a site where US Allies surrendered to the Japanese and then a few years later, USA came back to free Corregidor.
My father, 19 yrs old, was one of those paratroopers who landed on the rough terrain of that island and then participated in the combat liberation.
Of course I am so deeply proud to be a daughter of such a soldier.
Just wanted to let others know: there is a lot of online information on one website regarding the 503d...rosters, the jumps, the island terrain and caves...awesome maps, books to purchase and so much more. Fascinating materials.
If anyone here happens to be a relative of a soldier in the 503d, I would dearly love to hear from you!
No realatives but I have read a good bit about Corregidor in my books "The US Army in WW2". It was a very tuff jump when they laned on there as there was a cliff at one side and I read a few of the jumpers laned down at the bottom from that cliff instead of on the top. That was brave jump they did. My hats off to your dad and all of them and I thank them for what they did. Ron
