Not sure if others on here have heard of this but i was watching the History Channel today about the ancient Chinese Mega ships at 600 feet long and 2,000 people on them as they supposedly had the knowledge to travel all around the Pacific ocean 71 years before Columbus.

Though they can't prove it as they were going by chinese accounts and by hypothical thinking for and against it was an interesting show and made you ponder about if the Chinese did land in America in 1421.

Here's a wiki account of the chinese naval adventures in 1421.

Well, this may be true, but they were still late-comers to the party. Anyone who is anyone knows that St. Brendan came in the 6th century. How else does one explain the stone carvings written in Olde Irish using the Ogham alphabet in West Virginia?

The Chinese also explored the Eastern coast of Africa. Then, for whatever reason, some Emperor put an end to these expeditions. Seems like a nice parallel to our space program, if you think about it.

It doesn't really matter which ships arrived first, those of Columbus or the Chinese, because the Native American Indians were already in America. For any country or group of people to claim that they "discovered" America is a distortion of history.

Indeed. I have never understood how you can "discover" a place that happens to be full of people. Perhaps a change in terms is overdue. Columbus "publicized" the Americas to a still in the dark Europe.

As for the Chinese, I have read its true.

Well, the Dutch discovered Australia, so I think it's perfectly okay to say.

You're quibbling. The discovery is from the point of view of Western culture, you know, the current culture of the New World. When you're the dominant culture you get to see things from your point of view, it's one of the perks.

History as a whole is distorted to the reality of who at the time has a BIGGER STICK and makes their desires (needs/wants) LAW of the land they conquer. Steve

History isn't distorted, it's that some people have a distorted view of history, which isn't the same thing. Different points of view are readily available, at least they are in The United States.
