Yes rock and roll was the end of a moralistic society and most elders did'nt like it. But you have to remember they knew what happens when a nation loses its values, many had fought in 3 wars,ww1 , ww11 and korea .They had also survived the Roaring 20s and the sythlis epedemic.
Sex became fun and common, it was ok to be free and enjoy yourself, and the "establishment" was something to be feared and disliked. There was also the downside, drugs started becoming popular, and the VN war was horrible. IMO some of this countries darkest days were after JFK was killed in 63 and the country was in turmoil.

IMO our darkest days was when these mud wallering hippies became teachers, professors and leaders. We were warned by MCcarthy about the communist elements in our mist, but he was verbally stoned by them and their allies the fems and libs. Now our nation is no longer free and is being invaded by what was once considered our enemies.

Marine Corp hynm'to the shores of Tripoli' meant figting the very ones who are no longer in Tripoli but right here setting up camp. Marines were created to fight these barbareans from the middle east who were killing and enslaving our sailors on trade ships. Now we fly them in by the millions.Set them up in power and support their large famileis with welfare. While many plan our demise in their American and Saudi supported mosque. Not all of course but way too many.

Just curious re. the poster who mentioned "rock and roll" above: were you referring exclusively to 50's/60's rock? Or did you mean the rock genre globally, such as rock music universally and from all decades?

Even today, some contemporary Soft Rock / Soft AC / Top-40 Pop songs are so tame and harmless that somehow I seriously doubt that even the elders of the 1950's would find them to be morally-offensive

Very interesting...and you had mentioned that this happened for you as late as 1982?

Honestly just curious, would your schools who banned rock music from being played also have prohibited songs from the lightest-possible part of the rock genre (i.e., Soft Rock/Soft AC)? For example, the 1980's (or later equivalent) versions of songs like these:

Not so much rock and roll as some of the culture it crerated. There are lots of good rock songs, some protesting illegal wars, some about romance, injustice and other moral type lyrics.

Then you have some that are just plain funny and as much an act as a band.Dr Hook comes to mind, their songs are funny and they put on an act on stage.I like lots of the classic rock songs.

One of my favorites is the one that we can use today' While My Guitar Gently Weeps ' lots of message in those lyrics.
