Oh, absolutely. It's damn impressive for anyone to muster up the courage to run towards the gunfire when every instinct is screaming at you to do the opposite. But if we're discussing the most impressive victories history have to offer, I think the courage of the individual soldier(s) - unfairly, perhaps - has to become just a part of the bigger picture. Yet another reason war sucks.

Yes, if you had challenged him and he then backhanded you across the ring.

That's a point of view, I guess...

I think the Battle of Königgrätz between Prussia and Austria was pretty impressive. Why? Because of the stupidity of the Austrians.

Quote:
[...] the vastly higher rate of fire from the Prussian breech-loading needle gun, compared to the Austrian muzzle-loading small arms and cannon were paramount. In addition the needle gun could be operated while prone in defense, and while moving quickly on the advance, while the Austrians had to stand up after each shot to reload their Lorenz rifles.
Seriously, we Austrians are not born to fight a war Despite still having a conscription based army.

Ramses III defeat of the Peoples of the Sea, a formidable group who many archaeologists credit for the collapse of the Bronze Age Mediterranean civilizations.

Maybe it has been posted already but maybe overlooked. Size is not always the most impressive. One most impressive battle that went awry was the first battle of America's own civil war. The crowd gathered to watch the union troops kick those rebel butts but that is not what happened now was it?

Hey! We Danes got our asses kicked by the Prussians and their unsporting breechloaders as early as 1864! And yes, there was a whole series of impressive blunders.

Nah... We didn't want to be part of the German Empire anyway It kinda hurts, though, that the German army plays the Königgrätzer March at pretty much every single occasion.

The world may have been a better place if the music loving Austrians had united Germany instead of the militaristic Prussians. Too bad!

I'm not familiar with it but a history major told me that the battle of Hastings was a world changing event. One other not so much of a battle because Egypt simple got overran with out a fight. The desert dwellers that came from out of nowhere and assimilated them changed the course of human events also.
