What is it about us Americans? Bring up Nanking, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, Pol Pot, the Armenian Genocide, the Golden Hoards, the destruction of Carthage, the Crusades...and someone will say "yeah but the US did this..." and here we go with Vietnam, Slavery, Native Americans, etc. Did the US build in some recessive neverending guilt gene into our chromosones?

Now self-realization and self-questioning is good, we aren't like Japan, denying the sins of our past. But you guys get carried away. History if full of genocides and massacres, and the sins of our nation or our forefathers cannot even begin to compare to other instances of evil and brutality recorded in history, both recent and ancient.

TC asked about the nation.
But another question is hidden behind this: can a man separate himself from his nation, country, society, culture? Who is responsible?

I think it was a bit of a natural course given what the OP was implying and has implied in other threads. The OP believes that some people, Muslims in general and Chechens in particular, are somehow an inherently barbarous and evil people given to committing atrocities. The implication is that these select groups he named are somehow unique in the pantheon of nations when it comes to the willingness and ease with which they commit atrocities. He has even intoned that the natural reaction for the civilized world is to exterminate such barbarians...oh the irony.

My point was that people/nations in general are all capable of and almost all have committed acts that would be classified as atrocities. I think the US gets brought up by people because the US is held as a paradigm of liberty and defender of human rights. By naming examples of atrocities committed by the US, it upends the argument that it is something unique in the culture or makeup of certain people. The US is an amalgamation of all people. The US is among the most progressive nations on Earth. Yet, the US still has skeletons in the closet and has committed horrendous acts. This isn't said as a condemnation, at least in my use of it, just as proof that all people/nations are capable of engaging in such behavior.

Where there is greed there is war. With war there are atrocities beyond just killing the enemy. These evils have plagued mankind forever.

And what of these communist-fearing countries, like the U.S., propping up dictators/leaders throughout the world, and the atrocities committed under those leaders? No blame for that?

Guantanamo Bay: The U.S.'s most recent atrocity?

Well basically yes, the nations differ from each other in character ( after all, there is such thing as "national character") or you can say they differ in spirit.

But why are you asking Russian questions on American forum?

Agreed, word for word.

It simply amazes me that on a thread that people can mention the Mongol Horde, the Ottoman Empire, the Khmer Rouge, NAZI GERMANY, etc. where millions died, somebody will mention Guantanamo Bay or Abu Ghraib.

Since you mentioned communism, you could have least mentioned the former Communist dictatorships in Eastern Europe (that btw the U.S. did not prop up). Or perhaps you could mentioned the Soviet Union under Uncle Joe Stalin or China under Mao. Or maybe North Korea.

Just sayin.

It makes them feel superior. No one who is connected to the real world takes them seriously, anyway.

You can always find some exceptions. Okay, let's look at it from another angle - the penal system. Some nations still chop hands or throw stones as a way of punishment while some other nations don't that because they find it barbarous and inhuman.
