Invasion would only have been necessary to achieve an "unconditional" surrender. By mid 1945, Japan was ready to negotiate peace on terms very favorable to the allies.
Apparently not favorable enough. Why isn't the narrative that Japan had opportunity to surrender before dropping the bombs in a way that was very favorable to them?
Losers of a war they started don't get to set the terms of their surrender, or decide what is favorable or not to those they have attacked, murdered, tortured, raped, slaughtered. Youtube: Rape of Nanking.
The Germans didn't have that luxury, as they surrendered unconditionally.

Thankfully Japan surrendered after the second bomb because we didn't have another, look at Okinawa and increase the casualties a few hundred percent...

Like Germany after WW 1? Word was many Germans felt like they could've won that war even tho their country surrendered. Japan had to be taken down and hard.
As sad as it was, unfortunately it was a necessary evil. We can only hope that nuclear weapons will never be used again. You know... that learning from history thing that we conveniently forget.

Two bombs and they folded like a deck of cards.... It carries extra weight when the targets are civilians, but Germans did not surrender even after taking civilian casualties worst than the Japanese.
Those who opposed us dropping the bomb on Japan also either ignore or are ignorant of the things Japan did to it's neighboring countries, Pacific islands, and POWs. Chemical and biological weapons tested on villages in China, medical experiments on living humans, live human dissection, the raping of Nanking (so horrible a Nazi party member sent messages to Hitler begging him to get Japan to stop), cutting the flesh from live prisoners to use as food, and Japanese sailors pulling the enemy, whose ship they sunk, from the water just to get a chance to chop their heads off. Many Japanese units, upon hearing of the surrender a d to release their prisoners, executed their prisoners instead.
