Say you have a time machine and you could go back to any era in the history of mankind. Which era would you want to travel to?

I'd go to all of them. I have a time machine.

But, the ones I'd check out first would be right here in my own back yard (supposing my time machine is stationary for the most part)

I would really, really like to experience Windsor and Detroit during the American prohibition era. Exciting times, to be sure.

Then it would be Windsor and Detroit during the late 1600's - early 1800's. I would love to see what the Detroit river area looked like before settlement.
If going by what Cadillac wrote about it is anything to go by........

“This river is scattered over, from one lake to another both on the mainland and the islands On the banks and round about the clusters of timber, surrounded by charming meadows there is an infinite number of fruit trees, chiefly plums and apples. They are so well laid out that they might be taken for orchards planted by the hand of a gardener.". Game is very common, as are geese, and all kinds of wild ducks. There are swans everywhere, there are quails, woodcocks, pheasants and rabbits, turkeys, partridges, hazelhens and a stupendous amount of turtledoves. This country is so temperate, so fertile and so beautiful that it may justly be called 'The Earthly Paradise of North America.'”

*sigh*

^ You wouldn't happen to have an extra seat would you?

Just one correction though. The area was settled by that time...by Indians...who later rose up against the more recent "settlers" (re: Chief Pontiac's War).

I think I'd pick a latter period: the late 1800s. I love Victorian architecture and Detroit being very wealthy at the time had some great examples.

I didn't count them, because they didn't "wreck" the whole place as described above. lol

Because I have a literary bent, I'd say the 1920s. Paris to be specific.

Renaissance Italy.

Pretty good one. It must've been a great time for scribble, scribble, scribble and other things!
I think I'd get the pull though to the glory days of Greece. I might have even have met Jason, the Argonaut guy!

Might sound crazy, but I'd love to experience the mid-late 40's. Obviously an incredibly difficult time, especially in Europe where my family is from, but the stories and photos of the good times really captured my heart and imagination as a kid - and still have a grasp on me to this day.
