Do you think it's possible Jews are the descendants of Sumerians who adopted a Canaanite language (Hebrew)? The Bible seems to suggest that the Jewish people originated in Sumer.

The biblical texts suggest Abraham was from "Ur of the Chaldees" ... so Mesopotamian seems to fit the bill. Sumerian? ... not so sure of that.

The modern Ashkenazi are most closely related to modern Italians, according to genetic studies. Sephardic and Mizrahi groups have more "Near Eastern" lineage.
