Since at this point the last 5 posts on this thread are only you answering yourself, or others complaining about the appearance of these type of topics in a history forum, it doesn't seem many are interested.

I agree however there really is no appropriate forum...maybe the entertainment forum is better suited.

1920s: 1918-1929. Started with end of WWI and ended with 1929 crash.

1930s: 1929-1941. Started with stock market crash and ended with US involvement of WWII.

1940s: Either 1941-1945. Started with US in WWII and ended with VJ day in Sept of 1945. Or 1941-1950. Starting with WWII for US and ending with Korea War.

1950s: Either 1945-1960. Starting with end of WWII and ending with birth control in 1960. Second option are that the fifties ended in 1963 with assassination of Kennedy. The fifties could have started with Korea War as well which I mentioned for the 1940s above.

1960s: started either in 1960 or 1963 and ended in 1973 with legalization of abortion along with the end of the Vietnam War in 1973.

1970s: 1973-1980 or 1984- end of Vietnam war and Reagans election or with 1984 Reagans Morning America.

1980s: 1980-1992 or 1993. Starting with stated above and ending either with grunge fashion or election of Clinton.

1990s: 1993-2001. Starting with Clinton and ending with 9/11 attack.

2000s: 2001-2008. 9/11 attack and ending with 2008 stock market crash.

2010s: 2008-201?.

Interesting how the mood seems to shift every 10 or so years. Makes you wonder if there something more to it, like a cycle.

Would anyone say 2008 is the last year that rings "dated" when you say it? For some reason, when I hear 2009, it doesn't really sound odd, since it's a futuristic sounding year (despite being way more than 5 years ago!), but 2008... the year and date do actually seem pretty dated by 2016 standards. In some ways, it really does seem almost as close to the late '90s as to now.

2007 is the last dated full year. 2008 was only dated the first half of the year. The second half of 2008 is when things started to look like what we have today. Having said that I personally think everything before 2011 is a little dated, just because it feels like a long time ago and the tech has changed a lot.

Nailed it.
2007-08 was also the last school year that felt "authentically" '00s, as opposed to 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years which were '00s in a way (especially 2008-09), but didn't really feel like the '00s, if that makes any sense.
