Opinions on "Lost States" book by Michael Trinklein (US History) (United States, political)

I am a history buff, however, don't buy a lot of books as I have little time to read them. I love very old maps, particularly. Not long ago, I picked up this coffee table hardback book at Barnes & Noble at a discount price. The title is: Lost States: True Stories of Texlahoma, Transylvania, and Other States That Never Made It by Michael Trinklein. It contains lots of rare maps of potential U.S. states that were proposed over the course of the history of the United States.

If you have read it, what do you think about it? Yes, some of the stories are stretching it a little that some foreign territories like the Philippines would become a U.S. state, but still a light, fun book to read with some rare maps included in each of the entries. The only thing I did not care for is some of the political comments were unnecessary or could have been written more cleverly, I would probably classify it as a juvenile book for a tween who likes to read about history. I read the except, and would agree that the level of information and the tone don't seem pitched toward adults.
