You're essentially correct, but there was the POW rescue attempt, and of course the many POWs that had their feet in North Vietnam for years against their wishes.
Vietnam may have been a war not worth fighting, but that doesn't excuse your ignorance of the facts. The US did not 'invade' Vietnam - it attempted to assist the South Vietnamese government from being taken over by the North. No US troops ever set foot in North Vietnam, so please, get some facts before spouting off about relatively recent history.
OK, Mr. 4 posts. We napalmed and bombed with war planes and helicopters among other things. Regardless where in Vietnam the troops were put on the ground, there was a lot of killing ordered by our generals. I blame the politicians and generals. The troops do not have much say. I think some people are splitting hairs. Thanks for sharing.

Anti-American sentiment, even hatred, is understandable, given our historical misdeeds, over the years, and if we want to heal the wounds, and if were to apologize, ask for forgiveness, which countries would be high on the list and for what reasons? And do you think it would do any good? Some of these countries, the younger residents, probably don't even realize what we did to them, years ago, and it could backfire, generating more hatred towards us.
We should apologize to the entire world. All 7 Billion of them.
We elected an inexperienced weakling to the most powerful position on earth and now the world will pay. Zealots, dictators, and maniacs speaking every language will now have their way with their people. Many many people will die, and we should apologize for that.
Crimea is just the beginning. North Korea, China, Venezuela and countries many American have never heard of will suffer and in the end Americans, because we do not live in an insular world, will suffer. People from tormented countries will blame America for their ills and suicide bombers will find their way to our country.
People who do not understand will urge more apologies and will beg for forgiveness from countries who have no economy, never considering that those countries have no economy because America, who provides 25% of the world economy, has become too weak to continue growing.
And if these people - the ones urging apology and reparation - have their way, they will elect someone even weaker than what we have.
It will be bad.
You have a 52 post history dude, so show more respect for those that have been here awhile. You have no clue what respect is though. That is obvious. Then you can get more strident. No one is intimidated by a "rookie", certainly not me.
What is this, "ageism" on citydata? No one can judge a person's age, experience, or arguing ability by how long they've been on citydata. Besides, who gets "intimidated" by someones reputation or age on this website anyway?
Did Britain apologize for their huge empire? Should the French apologize for Napoleon's conquests? NO! I am American, and I do not expect or want an apology from the British for burning Washington. Maybe the Spanish should apologize to the Cubans for what happened 120 years ago. They won't. America shouldn't apologize for anything.
