Hawaii (no longer a country) due to the U.S.'s overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani.
You should learn how that family got to power in Hawaii and form a monarchy. It was by conquest, brutal violence and theft, just like most monarchies in every country. Start with Kamehamela I.
The U.S. shouldn't apologize for that either since the majority of Hawaii didn't want to live under the rule of the monarch family. Hawaii has the best economy and the best quality of life than any of the islands in the Pacific as a state, why should we apologize?.........who in Hawaii today wants to return to a monarchy system and put in power 1 family?
another communist and a Soviet controlled puppet that was a casualty of the cold war. He tried to nationalized the economy and screw all U.S. investors in the country like the communist he was and the Guatemala Supreme Court went against him so he took out 4 of the Guatemala Supreme Court Justices acting like a communist dictator.
The U.S. shouldn't apologize for that either.........communism is evil.
If I were a despised, rich, greedy, exploitative capitalist, I'd be giving disaster relief to whoever needed it!
"See! Take note! I'm not all that bad of a person afterall!"
Done! Atonement for my guilt!
Oh, what a load of nonsense. Because it's really a no-win dealing with people like you. If the United States does nothing, it's uncaring. If the United States does something, it's solely due to cynical motives. That's why people like you are ignored.
There isn't a country in the Americas, including Canada, that has not been invaded by the USA, at some time or another.

By the way, I'd like to point out something else wrong in your post, namely the above passage.
When the United States invaded Canada in both 1775 and the War of 1812, Canada did not exist. There was no country of Canada. It was British colony that was a potential staging ground for incursions into the United States, ergo a legitimate military target. To be sure, there were Americans who would have liked nothing better than to shear away Ontario and make it the next American state, but had the British not performed several years of outrages against American shipping and American sailors, not to mention the arming of Indian tribes to deter westward expansion, there would have been no war, and no invasion of what would eventually become Canada some 55 years later. So what you are decrying is the fact that the United States responded to aggression from your former colonial masters with what would nowadays be considered a highly appropriate military response.
Once the War of 1812 concluded, and especially since Canada gained its independence, it's remarkable how our bloodthirsty, atavistic republic hasn't continually invaded you since then.
should the U.S. also apologize for invading Italy and France to liberate Europe from the Nazi? Should we apologize for beating the crap out of Japan in a war they started? Should we apologize for winning the Cold War and the communism aggression.
please!.....we shouldn't apologize for anything...deal with it!

Whether we apologize or not, we have an obligation to current and future generations to learn from our past mistakes. I hope for the sake of those generations, those who share your viewpoint are outnumbered and especially in our government.
It is really more about learning from those mistakes than apologizing. Our intelligent (hopefully) decisions going forward are actions that will speak louder than words. We can't have another Iraq or Vietnam.

this world is not Nirvana or Utopia....if you want perfection you have to wait for the next life.
The U.S. took the best options at the time during Iraq and Vietnam, of course its easy to MONDAY QUARTERBACK history.........if you want to be picky, you can learn from many mistakes from the Revolution War, Civil War, WW 1, WW 2 , KOREAN WAR and every conflict in history.
this world is dangerous and like cancer, you have to take care of the problem before its spread and it cost more lives to deal with it.
I have no problem in taking out a brutal dictator in Iraq and I have no problem fighting the cold war and stopping communism aggression. It was the communists of North Vietnam that invaded the South the same for North Korea........We kept them from taking over in South KOREA and let them take South Vietnam.
Look at South KOREA today and compare that to North Korea and Vietnam, its night and day. Millions of North Koreans are killed by starvation or tortured......to a less extend Vietnam, where communism has raised the level of poverty......and you say we made a "mistake" in trying to make other people's lives better and the world?......PLEASE!

A million Vietnamese dying was more than a mere mistake. It was wrong. Iraq was wrong. By your logic we should also be taking out Putin, a brutal dictator in Russia, right? Or Iran's dictator? Where would it end? Please visit a military veteran with a limb missing in a VA hospital or severe PTSD and tell him and his family "Oh, well. The world is not nirvana or utopia. So just deal with it the best you can". That is essentially your viewpoint expressed in the post and that is frankly sad.
It will never be utopia. That does not mean we do not strive to improve. As to your North Korea comment. yes, we are better than the North Korean dictatorship. That is a fairly low standard to exceed. I would hope we can set the bar higher than that. LOL.
There are countries like Switzerland that have never been in war or you have to go way, way back. Please don't tell me to move there. A country can make a decision to have peace.
Our image has been severely damaged from unnecessary military interventions. It has killed too many of our people, wrecked families, and been a severe drain on the Federal budget. You want lower taxes? Intervene far less frequently overseas. You can't have it both ways. Very few people I know disagree with this. You say that's the way it goes. Most people would disagree.
Have you served in the military? If yes, have you served in combat? I ask this to those of you that have been especially strident in defending all these various wars and saying "No apology ever", etc.
I have not served, but my father did. We should be absolutely certain intervention is needed before sending the troops anywhere. Doing otherwise is irresponsible and reckless.
True patriots oppose senseless wars.
For the mods:
Mods, I would ask that you do not close the thread. There is nothing wrong with people expressing their views on each side of this issue passionately. A "milquetoast" polite conversation on a matter like this is just not realistic. I am criticizing viewpoints and others are doing the same to me while supporting our own. We are all adults and can handle the "heat". Another thread on the military was closed real early and people were mostly being respectful. Thanks for considering this and I apologize for the lecture. LOL!
Another point regarding Freewill2014's comment: If we continue to intervene in senseless military expeditions all over the world, how long will it be before many countries around the world consider us to be the "cancer" that needs to be removed. Wrap your head around that for a minute. Is that what we want?! I think not. We better learn from our mistakes sooner, rather than later.
I love this country and therefore want our foreign policy to improve significantly for the sake of the present and future generations. To my way of thinking, wanting "business as usual regardless of consequences" is not loving or caring about the country enough. Others may disagree. That is how I view it.
