If a man from Boston in the year 1714 were to wake up in Boston in 2014 what do you think would surprise him the most about life today?

The Internet? The much greater tolerance which exists today? The fact that Europe's relative global power has (significantly) declined?

Well, as it is still winter, he would probably first be impressed by the fact that the room was warm and that it was flooded with light from these odd-looking lamplike things.

5) The place no longer smells like animal poop.

4) Giant buildings.

3) Nearly naked women.

2) Motorized everything.

1) Mickey Rooney still alive.

1) Electricity and seemingly 'magic' heat sources (power at the switch / button / knob)
2) Frenetic pace of every one (Days lengthened from lighting every where)
3) Motorized carriages, delivery trucks, flying metal tubes with wings that don't flap
4) Massiveness of built environment and roadways
5) Women and Mens clothing styles

If he woke up at night he'd wonder why he can't see the stars in the sky as well. He'd wonder what was causing all the glowing outdoor lamps and what the large moving objects with lights were which kept whirring and whizzing around. He'd likely stagger to compose himself and orient himself in general to the overall amount of 'movement' seeming to occur everywhere.

If indoors as others have mentioned: heat without fire in apparent stove / fireplace, what the switches were for /i.e. electricity, why the people dressed so strangely, how does the commode work and other indoor plumbing, what are these objects people seemingly carry with them everywhere which some people speak into and others have strings that seem to attach some sort of bud in their ears?

Where is the old mill? Where is the ice house? How does the food keep in the cold box that is in the kitchen? How does the other little 'magic box' heat food in just a few minutes? How did you get such wide selection of food stuffs to eat especially at this time of year? What are those things flying around like huge metal birds? Why does most every business establishment ask me whether I have a 'card' and whether it is debit or credit? How did they get the doors to open automatically? How does the public toilet flush automatically?

What are all those picture frames with moving objects and talking people? Why are they seemingly everywhere I go?

The women, my how they show off their form! Why do so many go around in their undergarments? The roads what are they made from? How do people climb ALL the stairs in those buildings? Where are the farms? I see houses on all the best agricultural land.

Where did all these strange looking people come from? So many different people from around the world

Interesting exercise.
