PEARL HARBOR — They are the ironmen of their generation, living through Dec. 7, 1941, and the World War that followed, and defying the pitfalls of age and health into their 80s and 90s.

The five Pearl Harbor survivors who regularly volunteer at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center here, talking and joking with tourists and signing autographs, may have lost a step or two, but not their wit.

May I offer a prayer for all those who gave their lives during the attack at Pearl Harbor, on this anniversary of that sad event.

My mentor teacher's father was stationed at Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. He was a cook. It was really neat knowing someone who's father was there. She said her Father would reassure the family through out the war by telling them he was the cook and they didn't have to worry. She also added that the family knew better than to believe him but that both sides played the game; it made them all feel better. She didn't really talk about it any further, but I'll bet she had heard some things from her Dad that could go in a book.
