Former President George H.W. Bush, who went skydiving for his 90th birthday, also has a lofty legacy to celebrate as the leader who helped end the Cold War peacefully, presidential historian Tom Whalen told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"He was kind of the indispensable man because the Cold War, as it was ending during his term, could have gone in a number of negative ways," Boston University professor Whalen told "Midpoint" host Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV.

At least it was a quick victory for us, though, unlike Bush Jr.'s war.

However, in regards to this, it might have been nice if April Glaspie would have been more careful with what she said to Saddam before the war.

I worked briefly for the director of an independent federal agency on an environmental program that the administration of "George, the Good" was supporting. We worked somewhat closely with the White House. I was impressed by his staff. The people were very smart and pretty darn impartial, which amazed me (compared to working in another short assignment at a high level in cabinet-level department under Clinton).

I agree Bush Sr was much wiser than his incompetent son. He handled the first Gulf War well and helped us get over our Vietnam syndrome as a result. He correctly called Reagan's tax program voodoo economics. He would have been a better alternative to Carter in 1980 since his policies would not have been as fiscally irresponsible as Reagan's.
