Ill i am saying is that the portuguese left a legacy of over 200 million portuguese speakers. Brazil one of its descendents is a powerhouse in the world and it might become the fifth argest economy in the future. Compare that to South Africa, which is the country most known for being a dutch colony. Then you only have 50 million dutch/ afrikaan speakers worldwide, a quater of portuguese speakers.. I am just looking it from an outsider point of view.
A tie.
Portuguese were more successful making colonies assimilate their language and culture, making Portuguese one of the most speaking languages in the world and of the few present in the five continents.
Dutch have been most successful becoming one of the most prosperous and progressive countries in the world, thanks in part to trade during their empire. They have also managed to keep within the Kingdom of the Netherlands some of its former Caribbean colonies.
Yeah, and if that legacy is piri-piri chicken--Portugal definitely wins...
Or you might get into the equation the language, not so hard to remember, you know?
That thing with words and sounds.
