You might want to check out this fact: Not only were the Japanese not in retreat, but, they continued to occupy Hong Kong well after signing the surrender with the United States.

Mistrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful. They are people of a low sort and stock; the hangman and the bloodhound look out of their faces. Mistrust all who talk much of their justice! Verily, their souls lack more than honey. And when they call themselves the good and the just, do not forget that they would be Pharisees, if only they had — power.

Nietzsche

Ah. So you don't have any historical sources to back up your assertions, so you switch to Nietzsche. The irony that he's the philosophical father of the Nazis and other fascist movements seems to be lost on you.

I ROFL at this thread and the lack of education of some of the people in it. Even if you are completely uninformed, you can realize that more than 150k people total would die trying to invade and conquer Japan.

I don't deny that. I only said that conquering/invading ANYONE is unnecessary.

TKramar -

Still waiting to see that proof that the Japanese were all making their way back to Japan in August of 1945.

We, the US were attacked by Japan. We were at war with Japan. Japan was spreading their attempted conquest across the Pacific and into China.

An invasion of mainland Japan would have been absolutely necessary to bring them to their knees - to stop their agression. Instead, we used a weapon - a weapon that saved potentially 100's of 1000's of American lives.

I disagree with you - invasion and conquering WERE necessary.
