You know when I saw this I was surprised. Not sure how true it is though since I am not British. Now if 'Mrs Miniver'goes I can only think that the will to fight disappears as well....;-)...have to say the lady was tough psychologically. I'd say keeping the home fires burning truly helps wins battles and wars too, eh??

i think in the 20th century britain very much relied on the commonwealth, canada australia india etc and of course later the u.s.a. that is gone...britania was ever only a mith...my father a ww11 vet returned to england in 1972 and was absolutely mortified when he landed at heathrow and had to go through the foreigners gate..yes quite put out...when questioned about his visit he replied "that you were not so fussy last time".then he understood, i mean fully understood....
