I find it interesting why after someone THREW A GRENADE at him, barely missing and injuring others he kept his schedule like no big deal. Seriously, if that ever happened to the President he'd be whisked away to the safe location. I dunno, but if someone attempted to kill me with a grenade I'd be like "WTF, GET ME THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!!".
I don't know what was more stupid him continuing on despite someone trying to kill him or having a crappy driver that can't read directions.
- His "safe location" was in Ilidža, 15km from the city centre of Sarajevo. The city hall, were he was heading to, was a mere 600m from Cumurija bridge were the first assassination attempt happened. Apparently they thought that it's safer to just go to the city hall were lots of policemen and soldiers were stationed.
- Returning would have been a sign of weakness. Austria annexed Bosnia only six years ago and they knew that the Serbs would use every opportunity to discredit the Austrians. The Habsburgs were also staunchly Catholic and thought that god sent them to rule over their lands ("Von Gottes Gnaden Kaiser von Österreich"). I mean, when god really chose them to rule over Bosnia, what could possibly go wrong, right?
They may have also thought that the assassination attempt was a isolated incident by a lone assassin? Instead as we know today, it was part of a broad conspiracy supported by Serbian intelligence operators.
