I really dont think the men of today are what they use to be, Im talking about the days when "MEN were MEN" they talked like a man, they act like a man, they take it like a man and accept the hardships of life back in the days when a man had to do what a man had to do, not like it is now how many people feel they are entitled to everything , complain about everything when the going gets tough

real men would accept the responsibilty, they didnt try to claim disability at the slightest inconvenience , like a sore back, a bad knee, bi polar disorder, PTSD, etc , etc

I would say the last era was before the 1960's before the hippies and dope smokers

maybe WWII?

What are you talking about someone I picture someone that curses a lot, chews tobacco, spits, adjusts their crotch in public, and busts people over the head with a bottle in a bar fight.

I suspect that the extended reference would be to the glory days when men were men, women and minorities knew their place, and if your kid acted up you could smack him in the face in public without fear of criticism.

Men of course are still men. The more civilized a society becomes, the less need there is for the John Wayne-solve-everything-with-a-punch types. Hyper masculinity is not a useful characteristic when it comes to keyboard communications.

It's too offensive to be a man nowadays.

It probably changed with the advancement of social welfare. Once upon a time people were expected to take care of themselves. Now they expect some other poor bastards (i.e. taxpayers) take care of them.
