There is a current theory that Hitler did not die in the bunker. In 2014, FBI declassified documents indicate that he may have survived and lived in South America. The new series is Hunting Hitler on the History Channel. Check your local listings for dates and time.

You misspelled 'idle conjecture'.

By the way, does that show come on before or after the one about the aliens who periodically visit Earth to do things like build pyramids and kill JFK?

PS - Anyone else cringe as much as I do whenever a historical discussion includes someone citing the History Channel?

Hitler was no Goering, making a case against multiculturalism to multicultural nations would have served no purpose. Hitler felt that he had been betrayed by his closest allies, Hess, Goering and Himmler. He had been betrayed by his general's, many who conspired to kill him, and ultimately, Hitler felt that he had been betrayed by the German people themselves. In the face of this complete betrayal of the German race, what lessons would Hitler want to impart to those unworthy of upholding the principles of national socialism?

Argentina......an obvious choice. Many many Nazi officials utilized this. Why do this and not be willing to accept their leader? Hitler could have fled here.

Japan......another obvious choice. Hitler's still undefeated ally.

Romania: An Axis affiliated state which the Soviets had not successfully invaded. Switched sides ONLY because of the impending defeat of Nazi Germany and NOTHING MORE. Self preservation move having guaranteed that they will not be invaded by the reds, they had masked loyalty reasons with nothing to lose if they granted Hitler asylum.

Thailand: A Japanese economic "ally" which did anything to please Japan so that they would not be invaded. Unlike Japan, they were not at war with the allies. A telegram request from Hitler to the Japanese emperor could have resulted in Japan pressing Thailand to grant Hitler asylum, to which they would reluctantly relent.

Cambodia: Japanese puppet state, would grant Hitler asylum on Japan's say so. Not under threat of US invasion later.
At the end of WW1, the Kaiser fled to the neutral Netherlands. The Dutch gave him refugee and refused to give him up to the Allies. But Hitler was considered far worse then the Kaiser ever was. In fact, in WW2 Hitler attacked the Netherlands.

At the end of the war, Hitler could have escaped to perhaps Sweden or perhaps Switzerland. But imagine the international pressure as well as internal pressure, on those countries to give the man responsible for starting WW2, the Holocaust, cities reduced to rubble and millions of lives lost. No country would want to harbor such a man.

Of course as others said, it was not really in Hitler's personality to run.

So taking his own life was a sin on the same level as taking the lives of tens of millions of other people?

Wow.

Hitler was heavily drug-dependent and in extremely poor health from 1943 on. By April, 1945, he was on his last legs and wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway.

Did Hitler truly take his own life?

It's speculative at most.

It wasn't so much the Dutch who refused to extradite Wilhelm II, but Queen Wilhelmina who put her foot down, hard. Just for the record during WWII Winston Churchill offered Wilhelm II asylum in GB along with the Dutch RF. HIM refused to go and instead chose to remain in Nazi occupied Netherlands.

I think the ability to escape was there,,,he easily could have

but as mentioned that was NOT what he was about...he was going down with the ship...I think that evil sob believed in what he was doing with every ounce of his being...
He was way too narcissistic to hide out.
