Big difference between 'product of the times' and 'actions literally destroyed people's lives'.

When mid and high-level managers are demoted to messengers, janitors, and/or even fired due to nothing more than their race, that goes beyond 'product of the times'.

Crazy paradox, given Wilson's ideas 1) led to the creation of what we know as the UN, and 2) made him the Father of Public Administration.

Would love to bring his 'ghost' back, to see not only the current First Family, but that family's First Lady......with a Princeton degree hanging on the White House wall!!!!!!

The truth eventually comes out about everyone in our society. It is amazing how well Wilson's racism was covered up these past 100 years. The same with FDR's failed "economic experiments" and JFK's Vietnam War failure.

It's not necessarily that things are "covered up" but that new sources of information become available and that people from later generations have different views. By law, certain presidential papers are not available to the public for a prescribed number of years after he leaves office or dies. The same with non-presidential government documents. Manuscript census data which contains people's names/addresses/children/other personal information, for example, can't be released for 70 years after the census, meaning the 1940 census data just became available to scholars and genealogists just in the last few years. Much of the information, like the autopsy photos/reports, of the Kennedy assassination weren't released for several decades after his assassination.

As I said in my original post to start this thread, historians knew about Wilson's racism for decades, but for a long time, nobody who counted cared. Now, in a society where somebody losing a job or being demoted just because of his/her race has been illegal for almost 2 generations, what he did to blacks working in the federal government a century ago looms much larger to people today.

I'm glad that you added that final clause to your sentence because the entire civil rights movement and millions of "Negroes" were fully aware of Wilson's racism. How Wilson, the history of most racist president of the 20th Century has been lost and now "suddenly discovered" is a total mystery to me.

It's interesting how you only manage to mention Democrats.
