Yes, modern Germans are a mixture of Germanic tribes (many of them didn't originate from Scandinavia but were native to Northern Germany), Celts, Romans, Slavs and other minor tribes like the Nordwestblock cultures.
The term "Germany/Germania" dates back to Caesar who ignored the fact that there were also non-germanic tribes living east of the Rhine. shanv3 shouldn't assume a continuation from germanic tribes straight to Bismarck.

I wonder if some of it was because of political reasons the Slavs, Russians and Poles supporting communism.

There where sections in Yugoslavia that he had to bypass, because they could not make headway. The local residents would kill them as they slept, cutting the throats of many, and let the rest live to find their comrades in the morning dead. Hitler called them Barbarians and wild animals. He even ordered the execution of 10 civilians for every German Soldier killed by these people, but that did not stop them either. The Nazis even went into Schools and took out Children executing them because they ran out of adults to kill. They hated these people. Guess he didn't think that they would fight, after the Governments fell so fast, but he should have realized that these people fought War after War among them selves, and where well adapted to conflicts and killing. Heard a lot of History from family Participants. Have family that participated in every conflict in Yugoslavia from Kosovo, and the Ottoman Wars, to modern day . Interesting History, very violent. They where never "Slaves."
The Nazis implemented a Supremacy Ideology mostly to boost moral, a nation can lose many things it can never lose its pride. They didn't take it all that seriously. Romania and Hungary became Nazi allies despite not being "Aryan".China and Nazi Germany had great relations before 1937, Hitler turned around and supported Japan as a buffer against the Soviet Union. There were numerous non-Aryan members of the German Army towards the end of the war.

So if they support Nazis and not communism than the Nazis would have not hated them?
The Slavs have a long history of being used by others, starting with the Romans who conquered them and used them as as slaves. Slav comes from the Latin word for slave. Hitler just continued the concept seeing them as vastly inferior.
I believe both are root Magyar, which is Finno-Urgiac or Altaic.

It is interesting the Nazis would take Japan and much of other Asian people over white people like Slavs,Romanian and other Mediterranean people.
The Nazis would of killed most of the white race to get a Aryans race thinking most of the white race is not Aryans but inferior.
Yet side with Japan and much of other Asian people over white people.
Most people assume that the hatred came first and then the subjugation (or the attempt). It was the other way around.
Hitler saw that Russia and US, what with their enormous resource filled territories were going to be the powerhouses of the world. The only way Germans could hope to keep up (and here I believe that he was deluded enough to think it was his duty) was to increase their territory with lands that were productive and resource rich. It was a last ditch effort to make Germany a true world power.
Making the inhabitants of these areas 'subhuman' by way of propaganda (which the Nazis were the absolute masters of) was necessary to enlist the support of the regular german population. He saw what we, the Americans, had done (Manifest Destiny) including making them appear as subhuman and he approximated it as much as was possible.
Obviously being in Europe and dealing with populations of different (more educated, etc) people presented a slew of different roadblocks to this plan than those our ancestors (Americans) faced settling the west.

They'd "sort out" those "inconveniences" with time. The man idea was to "clear" Russian land and then to proceed with implementation of racial plan. Because there was definitely a plan of "redesigning" and changing the genetics, if not to say downright "creating a new race," replacing the Russians all together.

They defeated them only because these people didn't understand their own "good" - what's good for them. I'm sure Hitler had plans for them, judging by what's described in previous wiki article.
