Equally so, I learned to night that the entire city of Chicago was raised in the 1850's and 60's to install the sewer system!

^ indeed, beside basic tools and desire to I'm appalled at lookin how rich were back then public institutions in order to do such gigantic works

today it would be a dream, they even hardly can keep the streets clean from rubbish and graffiti (at least here, I don't know if it's the same in US)
