What was the slogan during the 1940s? Something about American's going to fight the "Jewish war"?
On September 20, 2006, the Council on Foreign Relations hosted a small meeting of select council members with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. While giving his speech, President Ahmadinejad expressed doubt that the holocaust had occurred. Maurice "Hank" Greenberg responded: "Listen, I went through Dachau during the war. To suggest it didn't occur is simply a lie." To which President Ahmadinejad then asked if Greenberg was old enough to have participated in the liberation of Dachau.
The US went to war in Europe because our allies over there asked the US for it's help. The US did not declare war on Germany. It declared war only on Japan because Japan attacked one of our territories.
I am wondering, what does everyone think would have happened had the U.S., in response to being attacked at Pearl Harbor, had gone to war with Japan exclusively?
even if hitler had not declared war on the US, we would have been at war with them the next day anyway. remember that 69 years ago dec 8, 1941, japan declared war on britain, so it we were going to war with germany whether hitler declared war against us or not.

However, without American forces in Western Europe to hasten the Axis demise, it's most likely that German would have developed nuclear weapons, followed quickly by the British. actually we would have defeated japan much faster than just six months sooner. if we could have concentrated our entire war effort against japan, we would have beaten them in less than three years.
as for hitler possibly developing nuclear weapons, not likely since he pretty much gave up that program after the british destroyed his heavy water plant, and his supplies of heavy water early in the war.

We were always worried about it though. There is some evidence that German physicist Werner Heisenberg, one of the world's foremost physicists at the time, was dragging his feet and making sure that no progress was being made because he didn't want such a weapon to be placed into the hands of the Nazis. But he never admitted this, as he felt a loyalty to his country even though he despised the Nazis. The OSS (predecessor to the CIA) even placed an undercover agent in Switzerland to attend an international scientific conference that Heisenberg was also attending; this agent was to sound Heisenberg out about German progress on atomic weapons and then assasinate him if it appeared to be necessary. There is a full-length book on all this which I read a few years ago, but damned if I can remember either the title or the author.

That would have required Adolf's cooperation. Hitler declared war on the United States first, not the other way around. I realize what question you meant to ask, but as the wording stands, that's the answer.
Consider an alternate history where Germany did not declare war on the US or attack the Soviet Union. Also Japan did not attack Pearl Harbor or the Philippines but only European interests in SE Asia. What would the world wind up looking like? Europe dominated by Germany from the Russian border west to the Atlantic with Great Britain crippled but still independent. Asia from (current) Pakistan to Mongolia, including Australia, would be in the Japanese co-prosperity sphere. The United States would be dominating Central and South America and be fighting over the mineral resources of Africa with Germany, Great Britain and Japan.
The real events resulted in a Europe from Russia West to the Atlantic dominated by Greater Germany, Asia dominated by China instead of Japan and the US dominating Central and South America and fighting with everybody over the African resources.
