In terms of economic matters, yes, bankers are powerful and can pretty much get the President to do whatever they want. All the Treasury Secretaries come from Wall Street. Presidents are pretty ignorant on economic matters.

On other matters, like military or social, I don't think they have much or any influence.

Well it worked well for the Knights Templar ( first ever bankers ).

Yes until 1305, the new Pope Clement V, and King Philip IV of France presaged Stalin by considering how many division did the Knights Templar have. They determined that they didn't have enough and Phillip found himself debt free.

The power of the Templars rose to the point that they were competing with traditional Jewish international bankers. International finance has been dominated by Jewish bankers for well over a millennia.

A non-Jewish Chairman of the Federal Reserve? The idea would be scoffed at.

Libya wanted to go on the Gold Standard. Then they were bombed into relative oblivion. Moderator cut: Political remarks removed.

Internationa or, better said, supra national business conglomerates are the most powerful entities.
Also, you should be referring not to a particular person, but to clans that have been around for centuries, like Windsors or Baruchs. Baruchs go back to the 4th century, what makes Rothchilds look like nouveauriche. There are some Italian clans too. Rothchilds by the way are not the richest or most powerful, they are managers to those. They are very rich, but nothing more. Entire count is roughly 325 families that own most of those conglomerates in manner very much so unadvertised and fortunes going into trillions.
Do they actually have power? Of course. Ever since Nixon times, USA became elite owned and operated proxy for their goals. None becomes a president that will not serve their goals and those who don't are punished severely (Kennedy clan, eg).

Here's a good visualization of America's current power structure in it's most basic form:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3w6c7RUbUs

Theoden stands in for the leaders of the country, Grima and Sarauman play the banksters, the guards and armies are the police and military and the peasants are us!

In other words... the banksters are only powerful as long as their influence over corrupted leadership remains intact. Once the illusion is broken, the banksters are ultimately pathetic and can be crushed like a bug.

The true power is in the police/military (the guys who have the physical means to acquire/maintain control over the peasants) and the police/military are invariably indoctrinated to remain loyal to and serve the will of the governmental leadership... so in effect, it's just one giant circle-jerk.

Where do people come up with this stuff?

I suppose the Carnegies, the Mellons, the Fricks, Stanfords and Morgans were just impartial local tradesmen who felt that businessmen had no place in government policies.

In the 90s-early 00', Greenspan was consider the most powerful man in America. Banks were at his mercy.

Today Feds are just a puppet to the Banks. They hold this economy hostage.

Because of banks:

- people who save money won't get rich, banks don't care about your deposits.
- People who take more risk gained more
- subprime borrowers gets help
- Companies can buy other smaller companies because loans are cheap

Example: Apple Inc is swimming in cash yet they keep borrowing more money to buy their own stocks. Hey why not? If they're getting loans that are so cheap why use their own mint.

Yet anybody here go to a Bank and ask for a $200,000 loan for a house requires good credit and 20% down.
