Interestingly, I still recall a Hot Rod interview of then Chevrolet President who derided the enthusiast instance on performance engines in their cars. The issue being the 305CID as the only engine option in the Z28. GM terribly lost back then and grappling with Federal Laws and import competition.
Look at performance cars now. Amazing what they deliver.
Of course it is an unenviable job, planning what will be desired several years in the future.
2.Are many Americans aware of the jobs that are available but too many Americans can't fill them because of our skills gap?
I recall a scene in Roger & Me in which the laid-off auto workers were hired by Taco Bell, but they didn't work out because they couldn't adjust to the fast-paced environment of a quick-service restaurant. Seems to me that if they can't handle Taco Bell, they're not going to do too well in other "modern" industries either.
To answer the OP: though I've come to despise Michael Moore for a host of reasons, I do think he hit the nail on the head with Roger & Me, in terms of showing the impact of the auto-industry decline on that particular Rust Belt city.
great documentary, im sure far too liberal for american tastes(thou shall not criticize corporate america)
my only complaint about the movie is the title, it should have been called searching for rodger smith.because that what he was doing.
