Did you ever use the term "hispanic" or conceptualize that as a distinct ethnic group?
All people I've ever spoken to on the subject, say that there was no such thing as "hispanics" - the
notion of a hispanic ethnic group did not exist, and they've only been familiar with the term for the last 30 years. These are people who grew up around Mexicans, Cubans, and other Latin-American or Spanish origin people in the South during segregation and say that they were thought of as a different kind of white people - white persons of a different European origin. What's more, the concept of a "hispanic" minority group was introduced to them on television in the 1980s.
