I'd like to find as objective an account of this conflict as possible, and would appreciate recommendations. There are books available, but at significant premiums, and I would rather not pay through the nose only to find that I've picked up a one-sided view. I've been to Greece and Turkey, and I liked both peoples, but I recognize that emotions remain raw and that neither side was saintly, so I suspect that an outside account might be most balanced.
A general book on modern Balkan history that covers the conflict in detail would serve; it wouldn't do me any harm to get a better understanding of the entire region.
"Ionian Vision: Greece in Asia Minor, 1919-22" by Michael Llewellyn-Smith is probably the closest you're going to get with respect to finding a detailed and unbiased history of the Greco-Turkish War. Can be had in paperback form for $16 and change.
