None other. I find him to be one of the most interesting figures in US history.
Have you ever visited Kirtland, OH? In many ways, it's the American Mecca, as Kirtland is where the Mormon Church was first organized and the first temple was built.
Interestingly, the Kirtland Temple, the first Mormon Temple, isn't owned by the Church of Latter Day Saints, headquartered in Salt Lake City. It is owned by the Community of Christ of Latter Day Saints, a separate Mormon sect. As a result, unlike LDS temples, the Kirtland Temple is open to the public.
The Kirtland Temple Center has a very informative museum, which well explains the Mormon departure from Kirtland. This explanation interestingly differs from the history offered at the LDS' nearby Historic Kirtland Visitor Center. Historic Kirtland also is a very good attraction.
No, I haven't. I'm not an LDS "member, and my positive take on Joseph Smith and the LDS Church probably would not win me any friends in the Church. I admire Joseph Smith for the institution, in all its aspects, which he created and how he created it. I see this from an historical and social perspective. He stands out in my mind as the greatest American prophet, ever.
Didn't see that. Richard Nixon had been VP, but was not the VP when elected president. The last serving VP to get elected president was Martin Van Buren.....who grew up speaking Dutch.
