Zeppelin L.21 made a bombing raid over parts of East Lancashire on the night of 25th/26th September 1916, dropping High Explosive and incendiary bombs. Thirteen people were killed in the town of Bolton; the village of Holcombe received two H.E. bombs, with the only casualty being a song thrush, later stuffed and preserved for posterity.
