I remember that. Poor guy must have been bats--t crazy by then.

My uncle died on Iwo Jima. He was a Marine photographer. So he carried a weapon and a camera and had to make decisions about when to use which.

Since they have released the formerly censored film I have watched some of the ones he made. I see in the most tense of situations they are very short frames.

It gives me an eerie feeling looking through my dead uncle's eyes, seeing what he saw. I have seen the final picture ever taken of him. He is gaunt and haunted. That thousand-yard-stare.

I can't help but think he saw his coming death.
