What is considered the longest highway in the world. Where does it start and end? And what is the name of the natural feature that disconnects it?

And you are absolutely correct, on all accounts. I think it runs from Ushuaia Argentina (mentioned previously) to Barrow Alaska, and the gap is now down to 13 miles.

Purdhoe Bay would have to be the northern terminus . Barrow does not have a road to the outside. The road from Fairbanks ( hy.11 ) is locally called the " haul road " , and , follows the Alaska Pipeline to the oil fields on the Arctic Ocean.

It was once said that the Darien Gap would never be closed, because of livestock quarantine. There would be no way to ensure that cattle would not be transported from South America to North America through there, and would create too large a risk to North America's livestock. But if the gap has been reduced to 13 miles, that consideration may no longer be of importance. Panama also has security concerns. Ive been to the last town on the blacktop, and there are no tourist accomodations there, and the local police meet all busses and tell non-Panamanians that they have to go back to Panama City before night. But they then ignore you, and townspeople find you accomodations.

Had thoughts over the years , of doing the Highway in a vintage car, but , I settled for the Alaska Highway , in my 1938 Packard.
