What was the name given to the intrepid French fur traders who traversed much of Canada in the 17th and 18th century largely over waterways?
Okay, I didn't see an answer to this one. Voyageurs were French trappers who traveled by boat. See? I did pay attention in the 4th grade. When Detroit celebrated it's tri-centennial a few years back, a voyageur paddled up the Detroit River to start the opening ceremony.
I wasn't sure of the spelling, so googled it and learned something new. French trappers and traders were often known as forest runners, coureurs de bois.
How about the Gogebic Mountain Range in The Upper Peninsula in Michigan? I paid attention in the 4th grade.
