We still have slavery today and many corporations (sadly) benefit from it, either directly but mostly through their supply chain - making the CEOs very wealthy.
Yeah thank you for that ridiculous comment. This is a classic example of historical trivialization.
No, the institutional system of chattel slavery is no way, shape, or form related to any modern socialism/capitalism agenda that you may have. I have little patience for comparing a person having trouble making payments for his latest smart phone, to someone that was in literal bondage and subject to physical indecencies and suffering that cannot even be mentioned.
This is the history forum, take it to the P&C forum.
This is what I hate about capitalism: A shirt at Walmart might cost $10 but the 12-year-old kid in India that made it might be lucky to have been paid $1.50 for their labor.
Walmarts have departments where you can get a personalized t-shirt with any photo or message you request. You could get one t-shirt which reads "I Hate Capitalism" and another with a photo of some 12 year old Pac Rimmer hustling away in outsourced sweatshop.

Yup. Where I get my Che Guevara T's when I'm in a revolutionary mood.

This comment is pure ignorance. People who are enslaved today don't own smart phones. They live in third world countries and often go without food, medical care or clean drinking water. They are often locked up in factories and forced to work for no pay and beaten. They endure everything that slaves in the 1800s in America did. Possibly even worse. You are obviously unaware of modern day slavery. I'm not talking about people who are underpaid at their Wal mart jobs in the USA. Here's some reading to help get you started: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ging-neck.html And don't try to dispute the story. It's well known and has been for many years.
Take it to the P&C forum.? Um, no I don't have to. I will continue to discuss it here. It's very relevant to the topic being discussed. It's naive and ignorant to view slavery as a relic of history or something that existed only in the USA.

Dont the Native Americans get some things, like tax free casinos?
As far as the Japanese-Americans. Their reparations went directly to those who had been put in those camps during WWII. It's been said that U.S slave reparations should have gone to newly freed slaves. Today's Black-Americans are generations removed from slavery so they didn't experience slavery.
Motion, basically I agree with you. But the slaves brought to America were also slaves in Africa, purchased from Africa.
How much money should Africa pay in reparations to the descendants of the slaves they sold on their coast who were destined to the American continent?
I'm not taking a position on reparations here, but fewer than half a million Africans were ever brought to the colonies/US over parts of three centuries. At slavery's peak in 1860, there were close to four million slaves in the US. America, not Africa, owns American slavery.
