Not being sarcastic, I'd be interested in reading a respected book on the topic. An I agree, the topic is about the potential for JFK's reelection.
Regarding the despised Vietnam War, it wasn't a despised war in the U.S. when Kennedy was president. Most Americans could not even find Vietnam on a map. We had advisers in the country. JFK and RFK had visited the country. JFK was not interested in escalating the situation. LBJ wasn't either but he didn't realized what he was getting involved.
JFK would easily have been reelected. He was more popular than LBJ and look at the 1964 election results.
