The Treaty of Paris 1763 - very significant. France ceded most of its possessions in eastern North America to Britain. The capture of Quebec City by the British became a part of the "Annus Mirabilis". From then onwards the British empire grew quite rapidly into the largest ever in history.
Quite possibly the biggest achievement of mankind highlighting we are capapble of something bigger than ourselves and a potential future outside of the confines of earth.

Late at night and and it lit up like a Christmas tree. Hundreds of calls from locals congratulating the US on that achievement. That was something special considering the domestic and international criticism of the Vietnam War at that time.
