The Treaty of Paris 1763 - very significant. France ceded most of its possessions in eastern North America to Britain. The capture of Quebec City by the British became a part of the "Annus Mirabilis". From then onwards the British empire grew quite rapidly into the largest ever in history.

Every year is equally significant. Who are we in our tiny view of time and the universe able to judge one year over another?

This thread is as silly as the "greatest generation" one.

1969 - Neil and Buzz

Quite possibly the biggest achievement of mankind highlighting we are capapble of something bigger than ourselves and a potential future outside of the confines of earth.

Wars and religions are just a continual balance of the human condition whereas the lunar landing was something truly special.

That's if the 1969 landing wasn't faked.

Perhaps it'll be seen as such if humans eventually go on to colonise other planets. But as off now it was basically the culmination of a <<bleep>> contest between the two superpowers of the day

Remember that well. Was a Marine assigned the US embassy in Singapore on a night shift all by myself. One of my jobs was answering the switchboard. Late at night and and it lit up like a Christmas tree. Hundreds of calls from locals congratulating the US on that achievement. That was something special considering the domestic and international criticism of the Vietnam War at that time.
