I'm totally enthralled. Have read, read, read over the last several years. Particularly into Hitler (3 bios) and the Holocaust, most recently.

Guess this is a lifelong fascination for many?

My dad was a paratrooper/Purple Heart recipient, another reason I became so interested....hard to imagine my dad at 19 dropping into warfare. Still amazed at the courage of so many.

There are still people who can't get enough of classic wars and battles, the totality of which don't add up to D-Day alone. WWII will be studied as long as what we mockingly call civilization exists. About the only thing that will have as much impact on nearly every country on earth is another war of that scale, or the next 50 years of climate change.

If you are like me, it will last until you thirst for knowledge is quenched.
And then you will go right on to something else! For me it was WW1, The Romans, The Celts, Vikings, Mongols, The Greeks, Julias Ceasar/Mark Anthony/Brutus/Cassius/Cleopatra, The Moors, African exploration and probably several other areas.
Subscribe to Curiosity Stream, Dan Carlin's Hard Core History or some of the other podcasts. Might want to visit D-Day museum in New Orleans or the WW1 museum in Kansas City.
Hopefully, your interest will last the rest of your life.

Maybe part of the reason WWII remains so intriguing is that it was a positive for pretty much everyone, including the defeated powers (in the long run), and a war that brought peace and prosperity after a couple of centuries of continuing conflict across Europe and beyond.

By contrast, I've read just enough about WWI to be too depressed to dig deeper into that sad, unnecessary, horrific loss with no positive outcomes.

I was obsessed since elementary school.

Did a special semester-long program in college that culminated in a trip to Normandy.

After that very intense experience, I was burnt out.

Still interested in WW2, but now I could take it or leave it.

That's exactly what happened....started with the Civil War....now I've already bought books on WWI. I particularly want to review the Vietnam War as well...this occured during my lifetime but I was too young to take interest.

And the Mongols I found just fascinating.

Guess I have a lot to look forward to...so much to learn, so little time! Didn't know there was a D-Day museum...the Holocaust Museum is certainly moving to visit...

My bookcases are overflowing.

I was obsessed with it through high school and into college.

I've gradually replaced my interest in it with making an attempt to understand all of American history.

Actually, I now find the period following World War II, the Cold War, to be more fascinating. Its all about how we avoided destroying the entire world by a combination of building up the military, negotiating, and showing the world we had a superior system.

But I try to understand all history now. I love the revolutionary period and the founding of the country.

I focus less on the Civil War and World War II because I've been saturated with details about both of them over the years.

I'd much rather read and study the 19th century than anything in the 20th, and even then, not war topics.
