Alcohol was never entirely illegal during prohibition. Exemptions were allowed for both medical and religious reasons. For certain ailments a doctor could prescribe alcohol. There was also an exemption for wine used in religious rites principally for members of the Catholic and Jewish faith. In some large cities for instance there was a surge in folks claiming to be priests and rabbis who needed wine to properly practice their faith.

This is true, but many of us do the same thing with the numerous other drugs that are still illegal at the federal level.

Yes, pretty crazy. Visiting Spain now and ironically it is the same as Ecuador where we retired.

Legal to possess a small amount but illegal to grow, sell or buy. .
