It goes way back 831 years from today. This goes to show that rioting has ramped up over the years. There were none recorded in the 1400's, and only one in the 1500's, and only one in the 1600's. In 1996 they rioted over the outcome of a sports game. Most of the unrest was about politics, small business, land ownership, and controversial incidents between civilians and the police.

A riot over 'A sports game!' they used to happen nearly every week down the Fulham Road after a Chelsea home match! :-D
I do not find any on the New York list caused by the outcome of a sports game.
Sounds like you haven't enjoyed the adrenalin rush of football hooliganism! :-), thankfully it's something long gone from the English game - still rife in some parts of Europe though if you fancy giving it a go! It took years for the authorities to get on top of it - they couldn't figure out what was causing it, ultimately though the best way to explain it was - 'the only rule about fight club is you don't talk about fight club'. At Chelsea if you got your head kicked in by a Chelsea hooligan he would leave with you a little business/calling card telling you that you were beaten up by a 'Chelses headhunter',at West Ham it was the 'Inter City' firm, so named because they would travel to away matches by 'Inter City' trains :-)

There are riots in North America after sports games, the Stanley Cup (Ice Hockey) for one has seen rioting following results.
Whilst many of those incidents mentioned in the link were more like localised disorder following a demonstration rather than major city wide riots.
