I love this, the idea of sheep at the White House - to aid the country.

How the Promise of Normalcy Won the 1920 Election
Nearly two years after the Armistice, bodies were still being repatriated from France for burial at Arlington, and the White House was only just getting around to selling a flock of sheep that had grazed the South Lawn, providing wool for the war effort.

I read recently, that the WH estate is 18 acres. That's potentially a lot of lawn. You could support a decent little herd of sheep on that, and definitely grow some wool. Very interesting. Thx for posting!

No sheep but at a very large condo complex near us the HOA has used goats to eat weeds. And the goats seem to do a very good job.

In the 1990s I found it strange to find a small urban garden somewhere near the Air and Space Museum in D.C. that had cotton plants in it.

Livestock grazing has been used with some success in urban areas for some areas difficult to access and maintain.

Being DC it reminds me of that classic cartoon of the one sheep imploring the other herded together "I'm telling you guys, the man and the dog are working together", to which the sheep herded respond, "Oh there you go with your conspiracy theories!"
