I've watched the first two episodes. The second ended on a grim note, not sure I'm up for the third just yet.
For the curious, apparently Burns' next projects include: American Revolution, history of the "Buffalo", Leonardo da Vinci, LBJ and the Great Society.
Not sure I'll be able to watch that second one, if he really persists in referring to the species as 'buffalo' rather than their proper term (bison). The rest of them will be quite interesting, I'm probably most interested in seeing the last one.
Spoiler alert: hot dogs and raccoon dogs aren't really dogs, flying foxes aren't really foxes, butterflies aren't really flies and ladybugs aren't true bugs. Common names rarely imply scientific accuracy and call it what you will in lay terms but fortunately Bison bison Linnaeus still means only one thing.
After the post war revelations about the Holocaust public opinion did not necessarily change. Into the late 40’s for instance there were homeowner deed restrictions that barred sales to people who were Jewish. And hotels oftentimes would would not accept reservations to people with Hebrew sounding names.
And these prohibitions also extended to other minority groups. Claire Chennault for instance who was the commanding general of the Flying Tigers in China could not legally buy a home because his wife was Chinese. His home state of Louisiana actually passed a law exempting the general and his wife from this law out of respect for his war time service.
A documentary that tries to scold American's into thinking the Holocaust was their fault.
Nope.
Why would you assume that that's what this doc is for? Puzzled.
I do think that many people are a bit (or perhaps more than a bit) naive regarding issues of hatred by one group for another, in the USA. My own former college roommate told me that this documentary has been a real eye-opener for her. I thought she knew all about this stuff...well, good, that's its purpose! Just to educate.

I think the documentary, which I watched, shows more about American attitudes and what could have been done about the Nazi's massacre of Jews. That's Monday morning quarterbacking but still relevant,
The documentary certainly wasn't saying that it was the fault of Americans.

Are you serious? Because he says buffalo you may not watch it? I doubt anyone always uses the proper terms.

Actually, the correct name is the American bison, to properly distinguish in from the European bison. I mean, if you're that annoyed about not using the 'proper' term, don't you think you should use the 'proper' term? Personally, I don't know why anyone is so bent out of shape about a colloquial name (I mean, dragonflies aren't flies, jellyfish aren't fish, mountain lions aren't lions - we could go on like this for a long, long time). And every last person who hears 'American buffalo' knows exactly to what that refers. And isn't that the point?
