In the void, here's an easy one:

I was the first in a line of monarchs, the 46th of which still reigns today over a kingdom much larger than my original one. I established my reign after having a dream of two lions, which I interpreted to be the future of my two sons. But first I had to expel a European power from my land. I ruled for less than a decade in the 16th century.

No, not Ethiopia. Perhaps the most useful clue is that there is still a reigning monarch today. That narrows it down quite a bit.

I don't know (yet), but look at these great photographs of present day African kings, emirs and emperors - Kings of Africa.

"It took [French photographer] Daniel Laine three years (1988 - 1991) of effort and intense diplomatic steps to realize this fantastic work. During this period, he was able to photograph 70 sovereigns, descendants of the great African dynasties."

I would guess that power was Spain, Portugal or France. Is the country Morocco?

I love that two lions-two sons story!

I was born in Kansas in the 19th century and grew up on a farm in Colorado. My father instilled in me agrarian-populist values, the communication of which defined the course of my life. After serving in the Great War I became an economist and stayed on at my college to teach the subject. My mentor had me collect a great number of photographs to illustrate an economics textbook, and from then on I used pictures from this collection to illustrate my lectures. Editing and adding to the collection gave me a sharp eye for a photograph's - and a photographer's - ability to convey a message. Economic circumstances led my college mentor to Washington, DC, and through him I went, too. The work for which I am best known is my college textbook project writ large - collections of photographs that illustrated the effects of economic events. This and later projects gave the world many of its enduring images.
