I was born in 1902 and graduated from Princeton in 1923 magna *** laude, where I learned seven languages and excelled as a shortstop on the college baseball team. Although I wanted to get a masters in romance languages at the Sorbonne, I couldn't afford to, and instead signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers. I was the guy the phrase " good glove, no hit" was coined after, and spent a couple of years in the minor leagues before returning to the majors as a catcher, where I excelled for several years before sustaining major injuries which ended my carer as a full time player, but I played in the majors until 1939.
In 1941 I volunteered for military duty, and, amongst other things did a radio broadcast to Japan ( in fluent Japanese) warning the Japanese of the futility of their military effort.
During the war, I became a spy for the US, and became an expert in nuclear physics. I lured Warner Heisenberg to Switzerland where I ascertained that Germany was behind the US in the development of the atomic bomb. . I parachuted into Yugoslavia and met with Tito, urging the US to back him instead of other Serbian rivals. In 1944-45, I snuck into Germany to arrange for the capture of German atomic scientists by US troops.
Who am I?

You are correct, Marcian. Moe Berg was a fascinating character. A teammate of his once remarked something along the lines of " You got all these fancy degrees, but you still can't hit a curveball."

Well, alright!!! Been a while since I have been called a Winner, LOL!!!!

Let's see . . .

I was born in Missouri. My dad was a teacher and money was tight in our home. After high school, I had planned to attend the University of Missouri, but after some prompting, applied for West Point where I was accepted. My early military career included a stay in Butte, Montana, while others were fighting in Europe. After WWI, I taught math at West Point.

I served in many areas of Europe, Africa and the Netherlands during WWII. After the war, I spent time in the healthcare system, working with veterans.

I wrote a book about my experiences in WWII. In my later years, I served as a consultant for a movie which would become quite popular.
