Has anyone else ever wondered how may wars may have started because someone was in a bad mood due to a -shall we say confilct of interest- with his or her significant other the night before?

Are you suggesting that Jackie was behind the Bay of Pigs?

No, but I wouldn't bet on it either way. With human nature being what it is, it is almost certain that that was the cause of some war, somewhere. History you didn't learn in your history books.

Catherine the Great might be a good place to start looking.

Well, Saddam Hussein may have invaded Kuwait to impress Jody Foster.

Is the premise a war which would not have started had not the lover's spat taken place? If so we would have to limit ourselves to wars launched by despots for only such rulers would have the power to start a war based on mere emotional caprice. Further, if we are to blame the mood, it must be a war that was instantly initiated, at least within the time frame before some other mood replaced the one generated by the lover's dispute.

Has there ever been such a war, one which is congruent with the defined conditions? I think there have been many such wars, but they are of a small scale and are fought with lawyers in divorce courts and property settlement hearings. The circumstance do not truly fit, but Caesar's war of intervention to settle the crown of Egypt between Cleopatra and her brother, seems to have been at least partly motivated by Caesar having the hots for Cleo. That's not fight leads to war, but it is in the ballpark.

There is of course a famous fictional portrayal of what you are seeking and that is Homer's epic of the Trojan War. Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships and so forth.
