Well, I'm happy about it, but before we get too far into the self congratulatory mode for this burst of pioneering democracy, we might remember that we still have not had a female chief executive, which puts us behind some of those more enlightened nations such as Great Britain, Israel,....India and Pakistan.

Also, we still haven't elected a porn star to our national legislative body like Italy did.

Define "non-white" and "West". Is Japan the west? Are Japanese non-white? Is Mexico the west? Are Mexicans "non-white"? Did you really mean "The first black leader in a nation of Europeans"?

Yeah, there is something deeply wrong when a third rate nation like Italy knows enough to send Ilona Staller to make laws while we have relied on Sonny Bono and Fred Grandy.

Why would anybody object to a porn star being in the legislature? A porn star is an actor who has suffered a certain amount of type-casting, but is otherwise as competent to serve in a legislature as any other actor. Given a choice betrwen Fred Thompson and that lady who opposed Arnold, I think I'd trust Mary Carey. Her published platform was whimsical, but she addressed a few serious issues on which I am very much on her team..

Legalize same-sex marriage.
Create a "Porn for Pistols" program to reduce the number of handguns.
Make those drawing unemployment insurance do jury duty for their pay.
Fight the attacks on the porn industry by John ******** and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Address the AIDS epidemic.
Help the overcrowded and mismanaged prison system.

Remember that Obama would only be counted as 'Black' in some countries whereas Brazil, etc. he would be considered mixed race due to his White mother.

Too; his cultural upbringing was essentially 'Anglo'----------living in Indonesia notwithstanding.

As for his father's side of the family: by especially Kenyan standards--------with few exceptions, they are all highly successful socio-economically and would probably do well here in the USA.

Add me to the list who voted for Obama as well due in large part to Palin making me uneasy----------and, I am a Republican.

Obama is white, grew up white and only became black when he moved to the East and found it was a good tool to make it being a downtrodden black guy...

Had no problems pushing his "White" Kansas roots during the election though...

Palin has more executive experience than Obama has had, she didn't bother me at all, considering she was the number "two" on the ticket, she was treated as if she was number one against Obama. Will be intesting to see if it becomes one on one... They are already trying to bash her because she scares the left and realizes she was pretty popular for only being number two...

In fact, an interesting point about Obama. He never grew up in a household in which there was an African-American adult. Which makes him, in one experiential respect, very different from nearly every other Arican-American.

Obama has a half brother in Kenya who lives on less than 1 dollar a day. You call that being successful ?
